Polyethylene (PE)
Single Pigment Concentrates
GK POLYMERS manufactures Single Pigment Concentrates – SPCs which contain high loads of organic and inorganic pigments. These Single Pigment Concentrates are fully dispersed using high-quality additives to ensure optimum color and achieve cost-efficiency. The excellent pigment dispersion ensures quick and homogenous dispersion of the color in the chosen polymer imparting maximum color strength and consistent color reproducibility. As a result no further dispersion is required, which minimizes processing costs. Single Pigment Concentrates are available in various resins such as PET, PBT, PP, and PE.
Polyethylene (PE) is a versatile thermoplastic polymer that is widely used in various industries due to its excellent combination of properties. It is produced by polymerizing ethylene, a simple hydrocarbon gas. PE is categorized into several types based on its density and molecular structure, including low-density polyethylene (LDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE).
In masterbatches, polyethylene is often used as the carrier resin, which encapsulates the pigments or additives. The choice of polyethylene as a carrier resin in masterbatches offers several advantages:
Polyethylene is compatible with a wide range of additives and pigments, making it suitable for various masterbatch formulations.
PE has excellent processability characteristics, allowing for easy blending with pigments and additives during the masterbatch manufacturing process. It can be melted, mixed, and pelletized efficiently.
PE ensures uniform dispersion of pigments or additives within the masterbatch pellets, which is crucial for achieving consistent coloration or desired properties in the final plastic product.
PE masterbatches can be used with different types of base polymers, including polyethylene itself as well as other polymers like polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and more.
Polyethylene is relatively inexpensive compared to other engineering resins, contributing to cost-effective masterbatch formulations.
PE masterbatches find applications across various industries, including
Packaging
PE masterbatches are commonly used in the packaging industry for coloring plastic films, bags, bottles, and containers.
Automotive
PE masterbatches are used for coloring interior and exterior automotive parts, such as dashboards, bumpers, and trim components.
Construction
In the construction industry, PE masterbatches are used for coloring pipes, profiles, sheets, and other construction materials.
Consumer Goods
PE masterbatches find applications in coloring household items, toys, appliances, and various consumer products.
Overall, polyethylene-based masterbatches offer versatility, ease of processing, and cost-effectiveness, making them a preferred choice for coloration and property enhancement in plastic products across diverse industries.
